dt-socalBalboa Island is as California as it gets. It has a rich history worth learning and exploring, starting with a visit to the Balboa Island Museum. Founded in 2000, it turned the island’s old fire station into a museum that shares interesting facts about this gorgeous island with locals and visitors.

The museum offers free tours to view its photographs and memorabilia from over 100 years- worth of history, starting with the Native American tribes and Spanish explorers along the Santa Ana River. They also offer a Balboa Island Walking Tour. It is a two-hour historical tour exploring the island’s unique history. Walk the island and hear stories from the people and the places that make the island unique.

The museum is open Wednesdays through Sundays from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm. For the walking tour, email balboaislandtours@gmail.com or call 949.554.5556 to secure your spot. Be sure to check their website for the latest information on the exhibits: http://balboaislandmuseum.org/.

To boat to the museum, head to the Balboa Marina located at 201 East Coast Highway. You can walk to the museum via Bayside Drive. For information on transient space: http://marinas.com/view/marina/1399_Balboa_Marina_Newport_Beach_CA_United_States?from=mobile.
